Trying Herdr
I’ve been kicking the tires of Herdr as a tmux replacement for the past few days. My initial thoughts are positive:
- The sidebar is nice for keeping track of workspaces and agents.
- Copy and paste over SSH just works, both from Herdr’s copy mode and from within Neovim. There’s even a little “Copied to clipboard” toast message to confirm it happened. I had to monkey with my tmux config several times to get both of these working.
- There’s a built-in git indicator in the sidebar showing when a workspace has unpushed commits. Cool!
- The popups work well. I have
prefix-Glaunch lazygit in a popup window andprefix-topen a popup terminal. I have these working in tmux already, though the Herdr config is friendlier to my eye. - It has a built-in ZOOM indicator for when you’ve zoomed a pane. I had Antigravity add this to tmux, and it works fine, but again the Herdr config is cleaner.
- It’s been rock solid so far, whereas tmux has been freezing on me lately. Though I assume that’s user error somehow. Tmux should be much more battle hardened.
I’m a bit concerned about it being VC-funded. But if it ever goes in a weird direction, I can easily fall back to tmux. Or fall forward into Rex!
