Bought a Thinkpad
I’ve been wanting a Linux laptop for a while now. I don’t need one, that’s for sure. I have an M2 MacBook Air, which is an objectively great laptop. I have an M2 iPad Pro that can handle some laptop duties and serve as a second display to my Air. I even have my dad’s old 2018-era MacBook Air that I finally got T2 Linux installed on. And yet, despite my efforts, I just can’t dispell my lust for a proper Linux laptop.
This has created an obnoxious loop:
- Get the itch, ask Claude about the best used Linux laptop options.
- Feverishly dig through Ebay looking at Thinkpads and Latitudes.
- Zero in on a reasonably good deal, hovering a finger over the buy button.
- Abort mission because either (a) I remind myself that this is dumb and I don’t need it, or (b) my wife walks in the room.
- Wait 5-12 days and repeat.
Finally I decided, fuck it, I’m just gonna buy one. If nothing else, it will stop the loop. So now I’ve got a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 on the way and am pondering distros and desktop environments. 🤗
