As a twist on TIL, below are things I find around the web that I think are worth sharing. The purpose is both to share learnings and encourage these writers to keep writing! This may evolve into something else. Perhaps a curated bookmark list.
Some inspiration:
- Jedda's postroll
- Save the Web by Being Nice from Andrew Stephens
- Raw dog the open web! from Jason Velazquez
Note: My updates here will not show up in RSS, so feel free to check in from time to time! If you’d like this sort of content in my feed, please let me know. My email’s at the bottom of all of my pages.

Trying to get back on the wagon here!
Fun post from Ryan West that I found via Hacker News: Why I Blog and How I Automate it.

This is interesting: Noise-cancelling tech leaves us less able to listen, argues researcher | CBC Radio. I found it via this MetaFilter post. I feel accidentally wiser for having recently bought the cheapest, non-noise-cancelling AirPods.
I'm listening to Nick Cave's Wild God album after reading his recent fan letter response.

Interesting Hacker News post on Sonos’s UX decline, Sonos CEO steps down after app update debacle | Hacker News, whose top commenter links to this good read: What happened to the Sonos app? A technical analysis. As a long-time Sonos customer, I knew there was consternation around the new app, and I’ve felt like things haven’t worked as well as they used to, but I mostly ignored the whole thing. Now I feel less ignorant.

Cal Newport wrote Lessons from YouTube's Extreme Makers, in which he discusses how a couple makers are keeping the spirit of the early internet alive on YouTube. I found this interesting, since bloggers talk a lot about that spirit, but typically in the context of creating websites. I never thought about it in the context of videos on a more modern platform.
Loving Manu’s post, Bloggers at the right time. Read it. I’ll quote the end, both to echo the message and to show my appreciation for Manu’s steady encouragement toward newbie bloggers:
So, if you're on the fence, give blogging a try. Creating an account on bearblog.dev is not harder than signing up on Instagram and buying a domain name isn't rocket science. Don't let other people discourage you. And if you need help, hit me up via email. My inbox is always open.

Great post from Julia Evans on setting up a modern terminal experience. I do this so infrequently that I can never remember the basics, though as Juliua points out, the fish shell defaults are pretty great. What's involved in getting a "modern" terminal setup?

I’ll be checking out Jason Kottke’s links as soon as I have a good focus block: An Ambient 24/7 Streaming Video of Chill Work/Study Vibes.
I read and liked vix’s posts: writing is hard, and blogging and online anonymity.

Jason’s Raw dog the open web! gave me a boost of motivation to keep working on this page:
Monoculture is winning. The Fortune 500 has shrink-wrapped our zeitgeist and we are suffocating culturally.
But, we can fight back by bookmarking a web page or sharing a piece of art unsanctioned by our For Your Page. To do that we must get out there and raw dog that open web.
This post, too. I found Jason’s blog via Manu’s blogroll.
Elsewhere, I always appreciate a pro-RSS post: You should use RSS | RemainNA's blog.

- Many good reads in here: The internet used to be fun. There's a bunch of positive posts in there, not just laments.
- I enjoyed this: Tend your garden. It relates to some ideas I've been wanting to write about.
- From more than a decade ago, this still hits home: Derek Powazek - The Argument Machine. I found it via Tantek's post: More Thoughtful Reading & Writing on the Web.

- I enjoyed Cal Newport's On Ultra-Processed Content, which likens junk content on the internet to junk food.

- I found Julia Evans's post, New microblog with TILs, inspiring me to make this page. I've seen Julia's blog recommended by a couple different people, most recently Chris Deluca in his interview with Manu.

- I appreciated Kev's post: I Contributed to Badger Cruelty, and it got me wondering what I should be doing to reduce my impact on animals.
