Internet hijacking our ambition?

Another good post from Cal Newport: Is the Internet Hijacking Our Ambition?

I just preordered the book he discusses, Brad Stulberg's The Way of Excellence: A Guide to True Greatness and Deep Satisfaction in a Chaotic World. Even though I told myself I was done with self-help books!

From Cal's post, citing the book:

“There is no greater illusion than thinking the accomplishment of some goal will change your life.” Genuine excellence is more about craft than rewards. You need to find meaning in the act of trying to improve at something. This satisfaction is more lasting than any isolated achievement.

Yes. This justifies all my procrastination-fueled Neovim adventures, right? 😉

Jokes aside, I so very much want my young son, who struggles with some mid-grade anxiety and insecurity, to appreciate this lesson someday. And I could use a daily reminder of it, myself.
