1-year blog anniversary
I'm writing this on borrowed time. I'm out at the Oregon coast with extended family, tucked away in a corner on my laptop. "What are you doing," my wife is hollering from across the room. But I already missed the one-year anniversary of my first post on this blog by a day, and I gotta write something!
So, on this Thanksgiving day, I'll say in a hurry:
I'm grateful for Bear Blog, which has provided a fine platform for blogging as well as a little tribe of bloggers for a newbie to join up with. Thanks to that tribe and Bear's discovery feeds (the Trending page is fine, but Most recent for the win), I know that at least a couple people will read my posts, which is all the motivation I need to keep going. Thank you, Herman!
I'm grateful for all the bloggers I've emailed with in the past year. As Manu said well, the good web is still alive and kicking thanks to all of you.
I'm grateful for the various privileges that have allowed me to get into computers early in my youth and to explore that interest throughout my life. I have great hobbies, great friends, and a lucrative career as a result.
And on that note, I'm so grateful for all the people who invest so much proverbial blood and sweat into making things and giving them away for free. That includes bloggers with their writing and ideas; software developers with things like Neovim, Emacs, Linux, Tmux, Zellij, Taskwarrior; and a virtually endless list of others. This never ceases to amaze me. I'm further grateful that I'm now in a financial position where I can comfortably give money to some of these efforts, which I'm very happy to do.
Okay, I gotta wrap this and get back to family time. Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it. To them and everyone else, cheers to all the things we all have to be grateful for.
Byeeee!
